General Specifications and Information

Exhibitor Information

Any CBHSA member or exhibitor may question, in an orderly manner, infractions of the CBHSA Rules and Regulations.  Protests or questions will be asked in the following manner:

 

1.    A protest or question during a show MUST go through the Show Committee, which will be posted at the entry booth.

2.    A question or inquiry at any other time should be asked first of your trainer, then, the trainer may go to CBHSA board members.

 

AT NO TIME during a show is an exhibitor, owner, trainer, parent or anyone otherwise connected to any exhibitor to approach or question the judge.  The judge may answer questions after a member of the Show Committee has approached him/her during schooling breaks.

 

Entry Forms

Both Rider and Mount(s) must be CBHSA members for points to count.  Member & Horses CBHSA numbers MUST be on the entry forms for points to count.  Points will not count if members ride non-member mounts and vice-versa. 

 

Hunter Classes

All Hunter classes will be judged on performance and soundness.  Manners and suitability shall be emphasized and extreme speed shall be penalized.  Jumps will include brush, walls, and gates, with white or natural rails.  NO striped rails or colored panels are allowed, however, striped rails may be used as ground rails.  Boots and bandages are not allowed in any hunter classes.  Martingales not permitted in under saddle classes.  Any Hunter classes with jumps 2’6’’ or higher may have an oxer(s) at the end of the line (this is optional).

 

Equitation Classes

All Equitation classes will be judged on equitation only (hands, seat, legs and control of mount).  Suitability shall be emphasized and extreme speed shall be penalized.  Jumps may include striped rails and colored panels.  Martingales not permitted in under saddle classes.

 

Pleasure Classes

All Pleasure classes will be judged on manners and suitability as a pleasure mount.  Extreme speed will be heavily penalized.  Same specifications for over fences as hunter classes.  Boots, bandages, and martingales are not allowed in ANY pleasure classes.

Limited Specifications Classes

In classes limited to certain specifications, i.e.:  Lesson Horse/Pony; Beginner Rider; etc, proof of eligibility may be required.

Age of Rider

Horse Show age is determined by your age as of December 1st of the previous year.

Novice Rider

Novice riders may compete in the Novice Divisions all year if they are eligible (not having won 3 blue ribbons over fences in equitation excluding mini-stirrup, beginner, and short stirrup) in the previous year.

 

Pony Height Eligibility

Anyone riding a pony in a Hunter or Pleasure division MUST be able to provide proof of the pony’s height if a protest is made within two weeks of the show for that pony’s points to count.  A Maryland , CBHSA or AHSA card must be shown to a member of the CBHSA board.  Protests may only be brought from a CBHSA registered trainer or member to the show committee or steward.

 

Champion/Reserve Champion Ties

Ties for Champion or Reserve Champion in Hunter divisions will be decided by the fence points.  Equitation (all non Hunter Divisions and CBHSA Horse & Pony) riders will receive equal points in case of a tie and flip for the ribbon.  Ties in Pleasure and Lesson will be hacked off.

 

High Point Rider Award

This will be given to the rider who accumulates the most points in equitation and performance classes for the year.  Award’s given for junior 13 & under and junior 14-17.

There will be a High Point or Grand Champion Pleasure Horse or Pony for yearend awards. 

 

Horse Show Requirements

All Horse Shows MUST HAVE AN EMT OR REGISTERED NURSE OR DOCTOR IN ATTENDANCE DURING THE HORSE SHOW AND DURING SCHOOLING BEFORE THE HORSE SHOW.  AN AMBULANCE MUST BE ON CALL.

 

All Horse Shows MUST HAVE A MINIMUM OF FIVE (5) CBHSA RECOGNIZED DIVISIONS AND OFFER BOTH CBHSA MEDAL CLASSES TO BE ABLE TO MAINTAIN THEIR CBHSA RATING.  You may have more than five (5) divisions as long as they follow CBHSA specifications as described in the current specifications.

 

For any division to receive yearend awards, that division must have been run in a minimum of 5 CBHSA rated horse shows during the current show season.

 

All Horse Shows are required to display a notice in their prize list stating that the show is recognized by the CBHSA.

 

Clear indication of which divisions are CBHSA recognized must be printed in the prize list.

 

Each show shall charge a $1.00 CBHSA fee per rider, regardless if rider is a CBHSA member or not.  These fees are paid when show points are recorded.

 

A copy of the results and prize list must be mailed (postmarked) within 5 days of the horse show.  Failure to comply will result in a $15.00 fine against the show manager.

Judges cards MUST accompany show results for points to count.  If there is a change from the original decision in how the judge pins the class, the judge’s card must reflect the new decision and resign the card. 

 

Division sheets turned into Points Keeper must include both horse and rider’s membership number for points to count.

 

The Horse Show must provide adequate liability insurance coverage and proof of insurance MUST be on the Horse Show grounds on the day of the show.

 

All Horse Shows must pay a membership fee of $25.00 per show to receive their rating.

 

The Horse Show MUST display names of the Show Committee for the day at the entry booth at each show.  Horse Show must display name of Steward that is assigned to each show from within organization.

 

 

Rules for Judges

1.    A judge must be on the CBHSA approved list, or recognized with the USAE or Maryland Horse Show Association.  All judges utilized must be carded judges.

2.    A judge may not be the owner or trainer of any horse or rider at a show he/she is officiating.

3.    A judge must not be a family member to any exhibitor or trainer at a show he/she is officiating.

4.    A judge may not discuss with any exhibitor, trainer, owner, parent or anyone otherwise connected to any exhibitor, the purchase, sale or lease of any horse during a competition he/she is officiating.  

5.    A judge may not officiate more than once in a 30-day period and no more than 4 times in one show calendar year.

6.    Judge utilized at Medal Finals must have a little “r” or big “R”.

(As of 4/9/07)

 

Note:  We will allow all divisions to run with a minimum of 2 riders – points to count ½.  Leadline is the only division that can run with 1 rider – points to count 1/3.

Leadline-Open to children 7 & under.  May cross enter Walk/Trot Equitation Division only.  Children will be awarded a merit award for 25 points, Bronze medal for 45 points, Silver medal for 65 points, Gold medal for 85 points.   

 

Walk/Trot Equitation-Open to all riders unable to canter in a group.  Judged on equitation.  Riders will be awarded a merit award for 35 points, Bronze medal for 55 points, Silver medal for 75 points, Gold medal for 95 points. 

 

Mini-Stirrup Equitation-Open to children 9 & under.  May cross enter Short Stirrup Hunter, Pleasure Horse & Pony ONLY.  Judged on equitation.  Fence height 18’’ verticals or small cross rails.  May canter individually, or not more than 6 to canter at one time, at the judges, or show manager’s discretion.

 

Beginner Equitation-Open to all amateur riders (points will be split out by 17 and under and adult for yearend) in their 1st or 2nd year of showing other than Lead Line, Walk/Trot Equitation.  Judged on equitation.  No more than 6 to canter at a time.  Fences may be cross rails or verticals no higher than 18”.  May cross-enter Pleasure and Lesson ONLY. 

Short Stirrup Equitation-Open to children 11 and under.  Judged on equitation.  Fence height 2 feet.  May not cross enter Children’s Hunter or Beg. Eq.

Novice Equitation-Open to riders of any age.  May not have won more than 3 blue ribbons in any equitation classes over fences that jump higher than 2 feet.  Novice equitation riders are eligible for the entire year.  Fence height 2’3”.

Junior Equitation 17 & Under-Open to all junior riders 17 & under.  Judged on equitation.  Fence height – small / medium ponies 2’3”, large ponies 2’6” and 2’9 for horses.

Adult Equitation-Open to adults.  Judged equitation.  Fence height 2’6” or 3”. 

Long Stirrup- Open to amateur adults.  Judged on equitation.  No more than 6 to canter at a time.  Fences 2”.  Not eligible to jump higher than 2’3” at same show.

Short Stirrup Hunter-Open to horses and ponies ridden by riders 11 and under.  Judged as a hunter.  May not cross enter Pleasure at same show.  May not cross enter Children’s Hunter.  Fence height 2 feet.

Pre-Children’s Hunter Horse-Open to horses ridden by juniors.  Judged as a hunter.  May not cross enter Children’s Hunter Horse at same show.  Fence height 2’6”.

Pre-Children’s Hunter Pony-Open to ponies ridden by juniors.  Judged as a hunter.  May not cross enter Children’s Hunter Pony at same show.  Fence heights 2” small & medium—2’3” large.

 

Baby Green Hunter 1st Year – Open to all horses and ponies in their first year of showing over fences.  Trotting in corners will not be penalized.  Fence heights 2’0’’ ponies and 2’3’’ for horses.  May not cross enter Pleasure at the same show.  Adults may ride ponies.  Combine w/ 2nd year Baby Green is an option.

Baby Green Hunter 2nd Year – Open to all horses and ponies in their second year of showing over fences.  Judged as a Hunter.  Fence heights 2’3’’ ponies and 2’6’’ horses.  May not cross enter Pleasure at the same show.  Adults may ride ponies.  Combine w/ 1st year Baby Green is an option.

Children’s Hunter Horse-Open to all horses ridden by juniors.  Judged as a hunter.  May not cross enter Pre-Children’s Hunter or Pleasure at same show.  Fence height 3’.

 

Children’s Hunter Pony-Open to all ponies ridden by juniors.  Judged as a hunter.  May not cross enter Pre-Children’s Hunter or Pleasure at same show.  Fence height 2’ small & medium-2’6” large.

 

Low Hunter-Open to horses.  Judged as a hunter.  May not cross enter Pleasure at same show.  Fence height 2’6” or 3’.  Rider’s choice.

 

Open Hunter-Open to horses.  Judged as a hunter.  May not cross enter pleasure at same show.  Fence height 3’.

 

CBHSA Horse & Pony-Open to all horses & ponies ridden by amateur CBHSA members.  Horses and/or riders (i.e. horse and new rider or rider with new mount) not eligible to jump higher than 2’3” at same show.  Judged 50% rider & 50% animal.  Fence height:  2’ or 2’3”, rider’s choice.  Ties for Champion and Reserve both riders will receive equal points and flip for the ribbon.  Yearend points will be counted towards equitation points.

Lesson Horse and Pony-Open to all horses and ponies used in a lesson program, and who are registered CBHSA.  Manners and suitability to be emphasized.  Horses and ponies to jump 2’.  Ties for Champion and Reserve will be hacked off.  Yearend points will be counted towards high point horse or pony.

Pleasure Horse-Open to all horses not entered in any hunter division at the same show.  Judged at the walk, trot, canter, and over fences.   Manners and suitability to be emphasized.  Fence height 2’3” – 2’6”.  Oxers not permitted.  NO MARTINGALES at all permitted.  Show managers may chose maximum of 4 classes from the following:

Walk/Trot; Walk/Trot/Canter; Walk/Trot/Canter Combined (includes 2 jumps); Walk/Trot/Canter Park Mount (may include extended trot, back, gallop, halt); Over Fences (over fences can only be one class in the division).  Ties for Champion and Reserve in Pleasure will be hacked off.

Pleasure Pony-Open to all ponies.  Same specifications as Pleasure Horse.  Fence height 2’.

Novice Medal-Open to any eligible novice rider.  Medal final winner is not eligible the next year.  Judged over a course of 8-10 fences.  Fence height 2’3”.  Riders may be called back to work on the flat.  3 riders must complete the class for the points to count.  Riders must ride and complete 5 medal classes to qualify for the finals.  Finals are by invitation only.  May not enter Junior Medal while riding in Novice Medal.

Junior Medal-Open to all junior riders except those competing in Novice Medal.  May not cross enter Novice Medal.  Judged over a course of 8-10 fences.  Riders may be asked back to test on the flat.  3 riders must complete the class for the points to count.  Riders must ride & complete 5 medal classes to qualify for the medal finals.  Finals are by invitation only.  Fence height small / medium ponies 2’3”, large ponies 2’6”, horses 2’9”. 

Jumper Low Division-May not cross enter to high division in same show.  Low division 2’9” – 3’0”.  40% oxers to be utilized.  

          1st class – No touches to count, major faults only.  Timed first round. 

          2nd and 3rd classes – Table II, Section 2B time allowed 1st round, 2nd round for clean horses with shortened and timed class.

Jumper High Division-My not cross enter low division in same show.  High division 3’3’’ – 3’6”.

1st class – No touches to count, major faults only.  Timed first round.

          2nd and 3rd classes – Table II, Section 2B time allowed 1st round, 2nd round for clean horses with shortened and timed class.
